Air Canada pronounced that it exposed strange activity on its mobile app between August 22 and 24 earlier this week, with a research exposing that some twenty thousand user profiles may have been affected by the hackers. The airline states that there are some 1.7 million user accounts on its mobile app and in spite of communicating breached users straight, it endorses people to reset their mobile passwords.

“We immediately took action to block these attempts and implemented additional protocols to block further repeated unauthorized attempts. As an additional security precaution, we have locked all Air Canada mobile App accounts to protect our customers’ data,” it says.

Although the credit card details are secure and hasn’t been accessed, revealed the information containing gender, Passport number, passport expiration date, passport country of issuance, date of birth, nationality, country of residence, Aeroplan number, Known Traveler Number, and NEXUS number.

Passport details revealed to hackers

The company states that the users accounts which were created on aircanada.com weren’t revealed, accumulating that they should observe bank statements for deceitful action and if any, to communicate the bank.

“As a best practice, customers should always monitor their transactions and credit rating carefully and contact their financial services provider immediately if they become aware of any unusual or unauthorized activities,” it says.

No information have been delivered on how the definite violence occurred, and Air Canada clarifies that regardless of passport details being revealed, the perhaps stolen information aren’t sufficient to make new documents, as per government rules and regulations.

“If you stored your passport information on your profile, the Government of Canada’s passport website advises that the risk of a third party obtaining a passport in your name is low if you still have your passport, proof of citizenship and supporting identity documents. Also, according to the website, the Government of Canada cannot issue a new passport to anyone based on only the information found in a passport,” the airline explains.

The customers of Air Canada who are locked out of the app and are unable to access their accounts anymore or have precise details on the violation can communicate the airline straight away at 1- 855-541-0738.
