Facebook has warned employees that hard drives awash with information about those on the social platform giant’s payroll were stolen from a car last month.

“We have seen no evidence of abuse and believe this was a smash and grab crime rather than an attempt to steal employee information,” Facebook said in a statement.

“This theft impacts current and former Facebook employees only and no Facebook user data was involved.”

Sources say that the event happened on November 17. Facebook started informing the affected employees from December 13 after understanding the issue on November 20.

Facebook specified that it has taken punitive action against the employee, as it is unprincipled to carry the company’s delicate information outside the office.

Data breach despairs for Facebook don’t appear to be ending. Facebook and its companies like WhatsApp and Instagram faced numerous security examples in recent years for revealing personal data of its users.

Lately, Facebook acknowledged a data breach linking 100 third-party app developers who had unsuitable data access.

Earlier, app developers had unhindered access to group members’ information.. The app developers now only have partial access to group information such as group name, number of users, and the content in group posts.

As per Facebook’s new framework designed on the rules of their contract with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the social media giant is required to conduct timely and scheduled audits of all its products and services.
