Unknown methods are being used by hackers to make deceitful charges on PayPal accounts connected via GooglePay. These dealings are being charged through Target stores or Starbucks in the United States even though the account holders are in Germany.

Beginning on February 22nd, many people in Germany started reporting that their PayPal accounts connected to Google Pay were being charged with deceitful dealings ranging from €1,73 to over €1800.

Several people said that their accounts were first hit with a small deal ranging between €0,01 to €4,00, which were probably used as a test. Later on, they were hit with several charges from Target stores in the United States, with most being placed in New York and North Carolina.

When users started experiencing trouble getting refunds from PayPal when they first started reporting the issues.

Today, users in a German Facebook Group have said that PayPal has begun refunding these fake charges.

“Some others and I have already received emails from PayPal that the reported payments will be credited to the linked bank account,” one user posted to the Facebook account.

PayPal told another user by that they are examining the problem and that they would be repaying all affected users.
