Gateley, A UK law firm that offers legal services to the groups, has confirmed that they are investigating a cybersecurity issue. The cybersecurity incident led to the data breach including some of the clients’ confidential information. Gateley is known to be listed on the London Stock Exchange (GTLY). It has revealed that the IT team has discovered the breach.

The law firm immediately got some of the systems offline after the breach was detected and said that the systems were instantly reinstated. According to the data collected, the incident had a small impact and the attackers got access of total 0.2% of the data.

The company has admitted the compromised data has some of the confidential information of the client and they have informed the customers of the current situation. The company claimed that the affected data was traced and quickly deleted from the location. Moreover, there is no proof that the confidential data has been circulated.

The relevant regulators, Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) law enforcement have been updated on the current situation.

Speculations regarding this incident have been doing rounds, one of them is that it may have been a ransomware attack and Gateley may have paid the ransom to the cybercriminals to avoid the data leak. However, the firm has confirmed that they have no proof of the financial performance being hampered.

Gateley has mentioned that they do not have much insight to share except for the press release that has been out.

Moreover, several other law firms have been a victim of a cybercrime such as Seyfarth Shaw in October 2020 reported the ransomware attack. Additionally, Jones Day, the US-based law firm has complained of the stolen data and ransomware attacks.
